Options are being proposed for pedestrian safety improvements. Improvements consist of installing small pedestrian refuge islands within the two-way center turn lane at various points along the project limits to improve pedestrian safety; see map, aerial view, and typical section below. The improvements will not affect access to properties, and will minimize impact to left turn movements. The curb on the islands is mountable, meaning emergency vehicles will be able to drive over the island.

Option 1 (see map) - 10 pedestrian islands; locations distributed throughout project limits, indicated by the yellow circles.

Option 3 (see photograph) - Install overhead signs near project limits; one northbound near Stickney Point Road, another southbound near Beach Road (exact locations have not been determined).

Option 4 - Do nothing. Pedestrian islands or signs will not be installed.

Option 5 (see map) - Four locations with crosswalk and flexible paddle signs and flashing beacon.

Option 6 (see map) - Crosswalk with flashing beacon (same as Option 5 without paddle signs).
